Wade Center meets fund-raising goal to stay open

— Officials with the Wade Center said Monday they  have topped their goal of raising $81,000 to keep the facility’s doors open.

Jessica McDaniel, executive director of the Wade Center, said a donation from Grant’s Supermarket helped put the center over the top.

“Grant’s called us on Friday and asked what our balance was,” McDaniel said. “It was around $71,000 and when we told them that they told us to come by and pick up a check for $10,000. We are now at $86,000 because more donations have continued to roll in. This will give us a cushion as we go into the first three months.”

McDaniel said the center will continue fundraising to help make the program self-sufficient.
