BLUEFIELD, Va. —
The Walmart in Bluefield, Va. closed for about an hour this morning after police were notified that a person with mental illness was on his way to the store.
“This morning at approximately 8:30 a.m. we received a call that a man who was possibly suffering from mental illness was on his way to Walmart to assault an individual who may have been at Walmart,” said Lt. Pete Beavers of the Bluefield, Va. Police Department. “We called Walmart management and they felt it would be better to close the store temporarily until we could locate that individual.” The individual being sought, an adult male, was found in Tazewell by the Tazewell Police Department, Beavers said. The man will undergo a psychiatric evaluation. No arrest was made.
Walmart was closed for approximately an hour. Bluefield, Va. police officers stayed at the store until the man was found, Beavers said.
