BLUEFIELD —
Controlling the sale of military-style weapons and keeping present gun laws in place were among the reactions today to a presidential effort aimed at ending gun violence.
President Obama announced that he was creating a panel to draft recommendations for addressing gun violence in light of the recent shootings at a Connecticut elementary school. Shoppers visiting the Mercer Mall had varying reactions to the president’s plan.
“I think he’s approaching it in the right way,” said David Terry, 65, of Beckley. “If he includes a section of everybody who has an interest in it, and if they could just sit down away from all these partisan politics, they might come up with something.”
