WYTHEVILLE, Va. — The Virginia Department of Transportation will begin closing rest areas along the Interstate 81 corridor later this month.
Electronic message signs notifying visitors that the rest area facilities will close on July 21 are now being posted at each location, including the I-81 rest area at Rural Retreat, near Wytheville. The rest areas are being closed in response to a $2.6 billion shortfall in transportation funding.
