AFTERNOON UPDATE — Police investigate fatal fire in Richlands
RICHLANDS, Va. - A body was recovered early Wednesday morning from a structure in downtown Richlands that was destroyed by a fire of unknown origin.
Two other houses were damaged by the fire, and a propane tank was threatened by the blaze. Fire crews received a 911 call at 3:44 a.m. of a structure fire on Tazewell Avenue in Richlands, according to Police Chief William Puckett.
“After the fire was extinguished, we began our investigation, and it was determined there was possibly a person inside, Puckett said. “Upon an investigation conducted by investigators with the Richlands Police Department and the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations unit, there has been a human body recovered from the residence.”
