One local result of the fiscal cliff debates in Washington is the uncertainty about whether the Mercer County school system will lose eight percent of its federal funding.
“This is one of those really bad outcomes because Congress did not resolve the fiscal cliff,” said Greg Prudich, president of the Mercer County Board of Education. “We don’t know what they’re going to do. We have to wait until they do it before we know what our budget is going to be.”
The board of education will work to avoid cuts in personnel, he said.
“We’re going to look at savings everywhere and anywhere we can, with the exception of personnel,” Prudich said. “That will be the last cuts we make if we have to make them.”
