TAZEWELL, Va. —
The Tazewell County Courthouse was closed today following a bomb threat.
The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a bomb threat at approximately 9 a.m., according to Sheriff Brian Hieatt.
“Detectives are working hard to identify the person or persons responsible for this latest bomb threat,” Hieatt said. “There are a number of leads being followed up. The last person convicted of a bomb threat in Tazewell County received a 10 year sentence for their deed. This is a very serious matter. The sheriff’s office is working with the Tazewell Police Department to try and bring the suspects in this matter to justice.”
Court cases were moved to the American Legion Building and the Tazewell Town Council Chambers following the threat. The courthouse was reopened around noon after no explosives were found.
Hieatt said the sheriff’s office used Twitter and Facebook to help notify the public of the courthouse being closed.
