PRINCETON —
Police in Princeton are investigating a homicide after the discovery of a body in a church parking lot.
The body of Jason Hicks, 30, of Princeton, was discovered by officers in the parking lot of the Pentecost Chapel of Praise on North Wickham Street in Princeton, according to Sgt. J.W. Howell with the Princeton Police Department.
“Around 7:35 p.m. our officers responded to 634 North Wickham in reference to a person lying in the parking lot of a pentecostal church,” Howell said. “Upon our arrival, the officers found a white male subject lying in the parking lot, not breathing and unresponsive. Upon further investigation they found what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. We started the investigation after that. It is a homicide investigation.”
Howell said that Hicks was not in a vehicle but found lying in the parking lot, and it appeared to officers on the scene that Hicks had not been in the lot very long before the police arrived. At this time, Howell said the police did not know what caliber of gun was used in the shooting.
Presently, Howell said he and other officers are interviewing witnesses surrounding the case, but have not made an arrest.
“We have already spoken several persons of interest and a few witnesses,” he said. “We have not made an arrest at this time. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.”
This is the second homicide in Princeton in the past two weeks.
The body of woman was discovered in the 800 block of Mercer Street by law enforcement on Jan. 19, the victim of stab wounds.
Anyone with any information on the case is encouraged to contact the Princeton City Police Department at 304-487-5000.
