CHARLESTON —
Hundreds of people turned out for the funeral of a West Virginia state trooper who was killed last week.
Eric Workman’s funeral was held Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center. Dozens of State Police cruisers lined nearby streets.
Workman and Cpl. Marshall Bailey were shot Aug. 28 near Interstate 79’s Wallback exit in Roane County. The gunman was killed in a shootout. A tow truck driver and Roane County sheriff’s deputy also were wounded.
The 26-year-old Workman lived in Ivydale and had been with the State Police less than two years. He was an all-state baseball player at Clay County High School in 2004 and went on to set records at West Virginia State. He also was a standout prep football and basketball player.
Bailey’s funeral was Sunday.
