PRINCETON —
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va. has posted a severe thunderstorm warning for Mercer and McDowell counties in West Virginia and Tazewell and Bland counties in Virginia. The warning is in effect until 2:30 p.m. Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph are possible, according to the weather service.
Destructive hail and dangerous cloud to ground lightning is possible. People outside should move into a shelter, preferably a strong building and away from windows, according to the weather service’s warning.
Flooding has been reported on Stafford Drive in Princeton as heavy rain hits Mercer County. Mercer County residents also have been reporting new power outages as a result of Thursday afternoon’s weather.
