Local man arrested in fatal collision

BRUSHFORK — A Mercer County man was arrested on a charge of DUI with death with recklessness following a two-vehicle wreck on the Falls Mills Road (Route 123) late Tuesday night.

Eric Perdue, 31, of Brushfork was arraigned Wednesday on the charges before a Mercer County magistrate and was released on a $5,000 bail, according to Deputy M.S. Horne of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Horne, Sherri Watkins, 41, also of Brushfork, was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt west on Route 123 when the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, traveling east, started to yawl, turned up on its side and ran head-on into the Cobalt.

“A witness was following the Cobalt,” Horne said.

“The witness reported that the Cobalt was traveling the posted speed. The driver (Watkins) died on impact. There were two other passengers in the Cobalt — a male, Charles Woody, 45, and a female, Marie Music, 27. Both were transported by the Bluefield Rescue Squad to Bluefield Regional Medical Center and then taken to CAMC in Charleston.”

Horne said that Music did not appear to be critically injured, but Woody suffered serious injuries. “I haven’t had time (Wednesday) night to check on their conditions,” Horne said. He added that Perdue was also transported by the Bluefield Rescue Squad to BRMC where he was treated and released into police custody.

Horne said that Perdue was arrested by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department in 2003 on a DUI charge. Horne received the call to the wreck at 10:46 p.m.
