Residents can purchase Christmas cards with local flair all to benefit the Bluefield Fine Arts Commission.
Skip Crane, of the Bluefield Fine Arts Commission, said the organization will be selling packs of holiday cards featuring several city landmarks from the past and present.
“These are holiday cards that are blank on the inside and depict several local landmarks,” Crane said. “They were painted by Larry Akers, and everyone just loves his work.”
Crane said the cards will come in four themes.
“The first is ‘Kresge’s After Dark,’ and then there is ‘A Christmas Parade with Snoop and Scoop,’” Crane said. “The third is the old engine at city park and the final one is ‘The Kollege Drive-In.’ A lot of people know it as the KDI and many people remember hanging out there when they were kids in the 1950s and 1960s. All of the cards are embellished to show a Christmas scene.”
Crane said the original paintings created by Larry Akers for the cards will also be sold during a silent auction.
“Those original four pictures on which the cards are based will be sold in a silent auction that is to be announced,” Crane said. “The four original paintings will be on display in the lobbies of the First Century Bank and First Community Bank on Federal Street beginning on Monday afternoon.”
Crane said the cards are on sale for $15 a pack or two packs for $25 at the First Century Bank lobby on College Avenue, the First Century Bank on Federal Street in Bluefield, and the First Community Bank on Federal Street.
“We only have 400 cards, so this is a limited offer,” Crane said. “They are being sold first come, first serve.”
