PRINCETON —
One person was killed Wednesday evening after a Ford Explorer from Monroe County struck a tractor-trailer parked along the westbound lanes of Route 460 near Princeton.
The crash was reported at approximately 7:10 p.m. in the vicinity of Halls Ridge Road.
Cpl. S.A. Sommers with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said the tractor-trailer’s driver had parked, put on his flashers and was getting directions to his next stop when the crash occurred.
The Explorer’s female driver may have become confused and mistook the parking lane for a lane of the highway, Sommers said. The Explorer hit the tractor-trailer’s rear at full speed.
The Explorer’s driver had not yet been identified Wednesday evening.
Mercer County Sheriff Don Meadows and other deputies at the scene were working to identify the victim. East River Volunteer Fire Department and Princeton Rescue Squad were also on the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer had minor injures.
