CEDAR BLUFF, Va. —
Distribution of controlled substances including heroin – rarely seen in Tazewell County – are among the many indictments handed down by a special session of the Tazewell County Grand Jury.
A list of 47 individuals facing 52 indictments – a total of 138 charges – was released Thursday during a Tazewell County Narcotics Task Force press conference at Cedar Bluff Town Hall. The Cedar Bluff Police Department recently joined the task force, said Commonwealth’s Attorney Dennis Lee.
“It seems like the job is never done,” Lee said.
The types of controlled substances being seen by investigators is growing.
“The number of drugs involved is wide and varied from methamphetamine to oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydrocodone and, unfortunately, to my knowledge the first case in Tazewell County for someone being charged with the distribution of heroin,” Lee said. “That’s a very disturbing fact. One of the things that Southwest Virginia has had the fortune with dodging or avoiding over the years is heroin in the area. I’m hoping this is an aberration and not the start of something new.”
