BLUEFIELD —
A Mercer County man was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and fleeing the scene of an accident Sunday morning after crashing into an ambulance and attempting to escape from law enforcement on foot.
Quentin Bryant, 26, of Bluefield, failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Hill Avenue and U.S. Route 52, in Bluefield and drove straight into the path of a Rescue 945 ambulance that was transporting a patient to Bluefield Regional Medical Center, according to Patrolman F.G. Brewer of the Bluefield Police Department.
“No one was injured in the wreck, and the patient was transferred to a Bluefield Rescue Squad transport that took the patient the rest of the way to the hospital,” Brewer said. “The driver of the 2001 Blazer fled on foot, but I was able to find his address on materials that he left in the vehicle.”
Brewer said that he went to Bryant’s address and issued the two citations to him. He said that the Blazer was damaged on the driver’s side front and rear doors and the ambulance received damage to the front, passenger side fender.
He said the Blazer was towed from the scene but the ambulance could be moved after the front bumper was pulled away from the front passenger side tire.
The wreck was reported at 9:02 a.m.
