MORNING UPDATE: Flood watch issued for Mercer, Tazewell, Bland and Giles

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

BLUEFIELD — BLUEFIELD — A flood watch issued by the National Weather Service in Blackburg, Va., for Mercer, Tazewell, Bland, Giles and Wythe counties begins at 4 p.m. this afternoon and continues through Saturday morning.

According to forecasters, heavy rain is likely from  late this afternoon into Saturday morning. Any snow cover that is left in the mountains also is expected to melt by this weekend.

The watch warns that a combination of heavy rain, a continuing snow melt and an already saturated ground may result in flooding along small streams and creeks. New rainfall amounts of between 1 to 2 inches are possible tonight.
