AFTERNOON UPDATE: Man gets life with mercy for murder

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

— PRINCETON – A Bluefield man pleaded guilty today to first-degree murder in the May 2009 shooting death of a Mercer County woman.

Judge William Sadler accepted a plea agreement from Dennis Lamar Sampson Jr., 21, and sentenced him immediately afterwards to life in prison with mercy. Sampson was arrested after the murder of Kerri Lynn Hager, 30, of Bluefield. Hager, a driver for Cimarron Coach, was shot while driving her taxi van in Bluefield.

Sampson will be eligible for parole in 15 years, but he was repeatedly warned today during the plea hearing at the Mercer County Courthouse that he had no guarantee that parole would be granted.
