BLUEFIELD – Today was the Bluefields’ 198th serving of free lemonade and Thursday will see serving 199.
Temperatures reached 90 degrees again today, so free lemonade will be served Thursday, said Marc Meachum, president of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce.
“Same time, same places,” Meachum said.
The 90 degrees is reached Thursday, Friday will see the 200th serving of free lemonade.
Lemonade will be served at Chicory Square in Bluefield, outside Goodykoontz Drug Store in south Bluefield, outside Kroger on Cumberland Road, at Graham Square in downtown Bluefield, Va. and outside of Food City and Wal-Mart in Bluefield, Va. The lemonade is donated by Kwik Kafe.
Started in 1939 by the late Eddie Steele, the promotion calls for serving free lemonade to the public every time the official temperature posted by the National Weather Service reaches 90 or more degrees.
