RICHLANDS, Va. —
The Richlands Area Chamber of Commerce is recruiting local businesses and individuals to get involved in a statewide canned food drive and benefit local food pantries.
From Memorial Day on May 28 to July 4, businesses across the Richlands area will be collecting cans to keep local food banks stocked through the summer months. The food drive is part of Governor Bob McDonnell’s Commonwealth-wide “Governor’s Bowl Challenge,” involving businesses and chambers of commerce across Virginia to help eradicate hunger.
Ginger Branton, executive director of the Richlands Area Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is hoping to get local businesses to collect 38 cans over the 38-day period.
Participating businesses can have cans picked up by chamber officials or drop off their cans at the chamber offices at 1413 Front Street, Richlands, Virginia, Monday through Friday.
For more information or to sign up a business for the “Governor’s Bowl” Food Drive in Richlands call 276-963-3385 or email richlandschamber@roadrunner.com.
