CAMP CREEK —
A Mercer County man was fatally injured shortly before midnight Friday when he crashed his vehicle into the back of a West Virginia Parkways snow removal truck that was operating in the third lane of northbound I-77 at the 21-mile marker.
Charles William Rose, 62, of Princeton, died as a result of the injuries he received in the wreck that occurred at 11:46 p.m., according to information provided by First Sgt. Michael Baylous of the West Virginia State Police. Trooper First Class M.S. Horton of the West Virginia State Police Turnpike Detachment was at the scene of the wreck and is the lead investigator.
In addition to the state police, firefighters with the Bluestone Valley Volunteer Fire Department along with paramedics with the Princeton Rescue Squad responded to the crash site to assist law enforcement and maintain traffic flow.
A crossover as well as two passing lanes were closed for about three hours, but the right lane was open and clear while police investigated the crash, according to an emergency responder who was on the scene.
Snow fell intermittently during the early morning hours, the emergency responder added.
