A search warrant executed at a McDowell County residence netted prescription narcotics, cash and two arrests, according to Sheriff Martin B. West.
West said the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office working in conjunction with the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant over the weekend at a residence in the Warriormine area of War. During the search of the residence, prescription drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash was seized by authorities.
West said Joseph Morefield and Debra Walker Morefield, both of War, were both charged with possession with intent to distribute a scheduled III controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute a schedule IV controlled substance and felony conspiracy.
The two are husband and wife, according to the sheriff’s department.
Both were still being held Monday at the county holding unit in lieu of a $50,000 bond where they were awaiting transfer to the reg-ional jail system.
West said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Monday’s announcement is the latest in a series of drug-related arrests in the War area by the sheriff’s office and the regional drug task force. Two methamphetamine labs were located in the War area last month in two unrelated investigations by the sheriff’s office and the regional drug task force.
