PRINCETON —
High water had been reported on one of Princeton’s main thoroughfares as heavy rain continues to fall across the region. And a flood warning has now been issued by the National Weather Service for McDowell and Buchanan counties. The warning means that flooding of small streams and creeks are imminent or has been reported.
In Princeton, high water has been seen at the Trent Street and Stafford Drive intersection near the Mercer County Senior Center, according to the Princeton Fire Department.
A flash flood watch also remains in effect through midnight for Mercer County. And a high wind warning remains in effect until midnight for Mercer, Tazewell, Bland and Wythe counties. A tornado watch posted this morning for Buchanan and Dickenson counties has now been lifted.
A powerful storm system is moving into the region from the upper Ohio Valley. The main threat of the storm system is heavy rain, damaging winds and the possibility of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
The rain will change to snow late tonight with minor snow accumulations expected into Friday.
