AFTERNOON UPDATE: Valentine’s Day dance for a worthy cause in McDowell

WELCH — Residents of McDowell County are being asked to open up their hearts and their wallets for a worthy cause this Valentine’s Day weekend.

A dance is being held Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Welch National Guard Armory to help raise funds for a new roof at the McDowell County Visitors and Veterans Center in Kimball. Tickets to the dance are $10, and must be purchased in advance at Welch City Hall, the Visitors and Veterans Center, McBride Accounting in Welch or Cathy Shear Elegance in Welch.

“We just want to encourage everyone to come out,” Cathy Patton, a member of the McDowell County Recreation Committee and a member of the board of directors of the Visitors and Veterans Center, said.
