WELCH —
Areas of the region remain under severe weather watches Thursday evening with the possibility of heavy thunderstorms bringing quarter-sized hail.
The National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va., issued a severe thunderstorm warning for McDowell County, particularly in the Welch, Kimball, Maybeury, Jenkinjones, Northfork, Keystone and Anawalt areas of the county. Those areas could possibly see quarter-sized hail along with damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour along with thunderstorms this evening.
A small stream flood advisory remains in effect in Mercer, Monroe, Tazewell and Bland counties until this evening. The weather service said there is the possibility of additional severe thunderstorms moving through the two Virginians through late this evening.
