CAMP CREEK —
A woman was fatally injured in a single-vehicle wreck early Friday morning on I-77 at mile marker 21 near the Camp Creek exit, a trooper with the West Virginia State Police Turnpike Detachment confirmed.
The woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin, was not from the immediate area, according to Cpl. D. Scala. The wreck occurred at 12:41 a.m., according to Scala.
The vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer, was traveling north on I-77, when the driver went off the side of the road, struck a sign and re-crossed all three lanes of the interstate where the driver lost control, according to Scala’s report of the incident.
“There were nine total occupants of the vehicle,” Lt. D.A. Gunnoe of the West Virginia State Police Turnpike Division said. “One was ejected from the vehicle and two were partially ejected.”
According to Gunnoe, four of the victims were transported to Princeton Community Hospital, and one of those victims was later transported from PCH to Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. The other four victims were transported to Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.
“I can’t speculate as to the condition of the other victims of the wreck,” Gunnoe said.
