PRINCETON —
The ‘For Those Who Served Museum’ in the Mercer County War Memorial in Princeton will be open on Monday, Nov. 12, from 12-3 p.m., to provide units that will be participating in the Princeton Veteran’s Day Parade to visit the museum after the event, according to Tony Whitlow, president of the museum board of directors.
“I haven’t spoken with Sam Heflin of the Princeton Vet Center, so I don’t know the time that the parade will start, but it usually ends at the War Memorial Building,” Whitlow said. “We like to have the memorial building open and ready for people who would like to visit after the parade is over.”
The museum committee has recently completed some modifications to the museum property, and Whitlow’s vision of a memorial room designed to honor military personnel of all American wars is rapidly coming to fruition in what was previously the large meeting room, but is now a memorial in its own right.
“I can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Whitlow said. “My wife and I worked on it all day (Thursday) and we keep making progress all the time.
The memorial room has a large display that resembles the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial in Washington, D.C., as well as other sections that honor the Revolutionary War, American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War and the War on Terror.
“I was hoping to get it open for Veteran’s Day, and that is a possibility,” Whitlow said. “We hope to hold the dedication on Saturday, Nov. 17, but that is a tentative date right now,” Whitlow said.
