TAZEWELL, Va. —
Law enforcement officers in two states are searching for a 26-year-old man who allegedly assaulted an 8-year-old minor child.
The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office posted a notice on Facebook Wednesday morning stating that they are actively searching for Timothy Asbury, a male subject, 5’9” tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes who was last seen in the vicinity of Skygusty.
“At this point, we consider that he is homeless,” Major Harold Heatley of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office said. “We have active felony warrants out on him now.” The posting on Facebook revealed that the department is searching for Asbury on a charge of aggravated sexual battery of a minor.
Heatley said that the suspect is believed to be from West Virginia, but added that they did not know the community where he is from. “He is not known to be dangerous,” Heatley said. He encouraged anyone who might know of his whereabouts to contact their local law enforcement office.
“We started investigating the case (on Tuesday),” Heatley said. “We are working with the McDowell and Mercer county sheriff’s offices and the West Virginia State Police to find the suspect.”
Heatley did not release any information concerning the gender of the victim.
