WELCH —
A man who apparently attempted to gain entry to a residence in the Panther area this morning was shot in the leg by the home owner, police said.
The incident was reported shortly after midnight. A man who attempted to enter the residence was shot in the leg by the homeowner, according to McDowell County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Mark Shelton.
The same residence had been broken into three days earlier.
“It’s still unclear as to why he was shot, or if he was trying to enter the residence again or what,” Shelton said. “It’s more or less under investigation. The homeowner shot him.”
Shelton said the man was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No charges have been filed in the case at this time.
