PIKEVILLE, Ky. — An eastern Kentucky man has been charged with murder in the death of a Virginia resident found dead in October.
A Pike County grand jury this week indicted 52-year-old William Johnny Slone of Mouthcard. The charges stem from the death of 40-year-old Jonathan Leon "Big John" Looney of Maxie, Va., who had been missing for several weeks when his body was found in Slone's home.
Slone has been indicted in drug-related cases since the body was found, but the murder charge is the first in direct relation to Looney's death.
Pike Commonwealth's Attorney Rick Bartley told The Appalachian News-Express that the charges came about because detectives followed up on leads.
A court date related to the murder charge against Slone has not yet been set.
