BECKLEY —
Another defendant in the ongoing investigation into widespread prescription drug abuse in southern West Virginia that has been labeled the Bluefield Pill Initiative has been sentenced.
Andrae Cortez Simmons, 38, of Princeton, was sentenced to 6 years in federal prison at his sentencing this afternoon at U.S. District Court in Beckley before U.S. District Judge Irene C. Berger of the Southern District of West Virginia. Simmons pleaded guilty on Aug. 2, on charges that he distributed 40 oxymorphone pills — also known as “Opana” to individuals cooperating with law enforcement.
The Southern West Virginia Drug & Violent Crime Task Force investigated the case.
For more details on the pill initiative, see Friday’s edition of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.
