Sentencing was delayed today in Mercer County Circuit Court for a man convicted of first-degree murder in May 2012.
Corey Christopher Samuel, 29, was scheduled to be sentenced before Judge William Sadler. Samuel was convicted on May 23, 2012 of first-degree murder with mercy for shooting 27-year-old Dwayne Steptoe outside a Bluefield nightclub on Sept. 13, 2009.
The prosecution needed more time to study the defendant’s motion for a new trial, according to information at the Mercer County Circuit Clerk’s Office. A new hearing was scheduled for Feb. 20.
Samuel is being held at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver.
