PRINCETON —
Sentences were handed down Monday in Mercer County Circuit Court in the case of a former teacher’s aide.
Courtney Wallace, 41, of Bluefield previously pleaded guilty before Judge William Sadler to two counts of first degree sexual abuse and one count of third degree sexual abuse. Wallace was arrested in April 2009 after a student at the Bluefield Alternative School made the allegations. Wallace was dismissed from his job after an investigation by Superintendent Dr. Deborah Akers.
Wallace was sentenced to 90 days for third degree sexual assault. With 90 days credit for time served at the Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, that sentence had been fulfilled, according to information with the Mercer County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
For the pair of first degree sexual abuse charges, Wallace was given a sentence of one to five years on each charge. Both sentences are to be served consecutively. Upon release, he must comply with lifetime sexual offender status and 20 years supervised release.
Wallace was remanded back to the Southern Regional Jail.
