People who missed the first opportunity to see a television episode dealing with the murder of a prominent physician and the investigation that followed, will have another chance today.
The Investigation Discovery program “Sins & Secrets” episode describing the 2005 murder case involving Dr. Ebb Keister “Doc” Whitley of Iaeger will air at noon today. The episode first aired on Oct. 21.
Film crews from Investigation Discovery came to McDowell County and neighboring Mercer County last April to interview Iaeger residents, investigators with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department, local officials and the local media. Bluefield Daily Telegraph Editor Samantha Perry and Assistant Managing Editor Charles Owens were among the people interviewed for the show.
Two people were arrested in connection with Whitley’s murder and the arson at his Iaeger home. Charles Lively was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life with mercy. He could be eligible for parole in 15 years, but this is not guaranteed. Tommy Owens was not convicted in the case, but he is currently in prison for a probation violation from an unrelated case.
Shows filmed by other companies have not always shown southern West Virginia and its residents in a positive light, but “Sins & Secrets” did a good job, Perry said after the show was broadcast.
