BLUEFIELD —
Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Republican Bill Maloney are reaching out to voters as each hopes to win West Virginia’s special election for governor.
With the election Tuesday, Maloney is visiting Clarksburg, Beckley and Charleston on Monday. He then plans to return to Morgantown, where he’s made his career as a drilling engineer and business owner.
Tomblin, the Democrat, is also rallying supporters Monday in Charleston. His weekend campaign stops included Logan County. Tomblin has represented that area in the Legislature since the 1970s.
Six other candidates are also running Tuesday. State election officials say that more than 56,600 West Virginians cast early or absentee ballots. That’s just below 5 percent of the state’s registered voters.
Tuesday’s winner will complete the term of now-U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin.
