Police arrest Hass on methamphetamine charges

PRINCETON — A local man is facing drug charges after a search of his home revealed the paraphernalia and chemicals for making methamphetamine.

Jeffery Scott Hass, 31, of Baptist Valley, Va., in Tazewell County was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his home, said Brian Hiett, chief of operations at the Tazewell Count Sheriff’s Office.

“This is just one of the many investigations we have going on dealing with methamphetamine right now,” Hiett said. “And this is the work of officers with the Tazewell County Drug Taskforce and the Virginia State Police. This is an investigation that came to a head Wednesday night with enough information to secure a search warrant and search the house.”

The search started at approximately 10 p.m., he said.

While executing the search warrant, officers found that meth was being made, Hiett said. Making the drug no longer requires a large laboratory.

“Now there’s ways of making meth using much smaller things,” he said. “It’s getting to where you don’t need a big laboratory.”

The Virginia State Police had to clean up the scene after the search. Chemicals used to make meth become volatile once they are mixed together, Hiett said.

Hass has been charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of two or more chemicals with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. He was being held without bond Friday at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Tazewell, Va.

Other meth labs have been found in the communities of Amonate, Bandy, and Bishop, Va., Hiett said.

“There have been several here in the last few months,” he said.
