PRINCETON —
Two long-requested national big-box chains are looking at possible sites in Mercer County.
Both Target, and Home Depot, have been exploring sites in the area, according to Mercer County Development Authority Director Janet Bailey and Princeton-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce Director Robert Farley.
“Target and Home Depot have looked at sites,” Bailey said Monday. “We have also had other businesses to look and other big boxes. They have looked, and are looking.”
In a recent interview with the Daily Telegraph, Farley also said the two companies are looking at sites near Princeton.
“I understand in just talking to some people in the community that Target and Home Depot has looked at some property closer to Princeton,” Farley said. “I think we are right on the edge of something good happening as the economy completely breaks and gets better.”
Bailey said most national big box chains are waiting on the economy to improve before expanding to new sites.
“They are still holding off and waiting for the economy to grow,” Bailey said. “There is a possibility that they (Target and Home Depot) will put an option on those sites as soon as they see the economy is getting better.”
In the meantime, new restaurants such as Logan’s Steakhouse and IHOP continue to look at possible sites in Mercer County.
“Logan’s Steakhouse will be a reality for the community and county,” Bailey said. “IHOP has looked at the area. We have received a lot of activity from other restaurants, hotels, motels and even manufacturing companies. You will see some activity within the next six to eight months with a new restaurant and possibly new hotels and motels.”
