WELCH - The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for McDowell and Buchanan counties, effective until early this evening.
Heavy and scattered thunderstorms later this afternoon have the possibility of producing flash flooding conditions and damaging winds. The storms are expected to pass through the area through the afternoon and into the early evening hours.
Ground that is saturated due to recent rainfall and flooding may cause flash flooding due to the additional heavy rainfall expected this afternoon.
The towns of Gary, Grundy, Mullens, Vansant, War and Welch were all specifically mentioned in the weather bulletin.
