BLUEFIELD — PRINCETON — A 9-year-old boy died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a collision with a vehicle while riding a bicycle in Princeton, police said.
Kyle Shane Miller, a student at Mercer Elementary School, died at Charleston Area Medical Center, according to Sgt. M.D. Clemons of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment.
The accident occurred Monday at 3 p.m. on Middlesex Avenue at the intersection of Hillside Drive.
“He was riding his bicycle east on Hillside Drive,” Clemons said of the child. “He was coming down a hill. When he approached the intersection there was evidence he attempted to hit his breaks, and he slid and struck a 1997 GMC Jimmy traveling on Middlesex Avenue.”
Clemons said the child was initially transported to Princeton Community Hospital, and was later transported to CAMC.
Clemons said the child’s death has been ruled an accident. No charges will be filed in the case.
The accident was investigated by Sgt. D.W. Miller. It occurred just outside of the city limits of Princeton.
Grief counselors will be dispatched to Mercer Elementary today to talk to students, according to Mercer County School Superintendent Dr. Deborah Akers.
