AFTERNOON UPDATE — Brooks stays cool, bowls 300 game

BLUEFIELD — At the age of 16, it’s important to stay cool. Kevin Brooks managed to do that earlier this month, even as all the bowling pins fell before him and a magic number approached.

The result? His first 300 game.

Brooks said he kept reminding himself, “Just stay calm and be consistent. There really wasn’t too much going through (my mind). I couldn’t think about much at that moment.”

As a by-product, the Bluefield High School junior helped his team to maintain first place in the youth bowling league at Mountaineer Lanes.
