The deadline is approaching for those seeking federal assistance to recoup losses from the summer derecho.
Buddy W. Mitchell, a spokesperson with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said Monday is the last day residents in Mercer, McDowell and Monroe counties can apply for assistance.
“Less than one week remains for West Virginia residents to register for disaster assistance to help with losses caused by the late-June and early-July derecho,” Mitchell said. “FEMA is urging everyone in the 20 affected counties to apply by Monday, Nov. 19. There are two ways to begin the application process. Residents may call FEMA’s toll-free registration number at 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585 for those with speech or hearing impairment from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Residents may also register online at www.disasterassistance.gov.”
