I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt “thanks” to the citizen volunteers, county administration employees, Bland County Sheriff’s Department, Virginia State Police, Virginia Department of Highways, the fire departments, Department of Social Services/Victim Witness, Melvin Enterprises, Bland County Rescue, Akers Wrecker Service, and others who played a part in the task of assisting people who were stranded on Interstate 77 on January 17th.
I have always appreciated the dedication of these folks, but I got a first-hand view of such while being stranded in my car for almost nine hours.
No matter how fast it snowed (or how deep) these individuals kept on working under very difficult (and I am sure very frustrating) circumstances.
I am so proud to live in a county where people truly live a lifestyle of taking care of each other.
