Focus on issues, not propaganda

Through the years, I’ve noticed something about letters, commentary, and editorials that are published in the weeks prior to an election. Much of it is intended to distract attention from important issues by those in indefensible positions.

Case in point, on Aug. 25 a letter, “Fox News: Propaganda for the GOP,” was published in the Bluefield Daily Telegraph. Anyone who read it should realize that the letter itself is propaganda, with absolutely no evidence to support the claims of “Republican propaganda, lies, hatred and violence against the American people ...” It is clear that the writer is simply trying to focus attention on Fox News and away from issues that really matter to Americans.

Why didn’t the letter writer write about the continuing collapse of our economy, despite the bailouts of Wall Street, Banks, GM, etc.? Why didn’t he comment upon the failure of the so-called “recovery summer” that the Obama regime promised? Why didn’t he mention that the majority of Americans have always been against ObamaCare, and yet the Democrats passed and continue to defend it? Why didn’t he mention that another round of tax increases will soon be imposed because the Democrats haven’t extended the Bush tax cuts? Why didn’t he speak against Democrat plans to force “cap and trade” and “amnesty for illegal aliens” through Congress during the upcoming lame duck session? Why indeed?

Instead of demanding that Comcast “take Fox News off ... and put something on worth watching,” I suggest that the letter writer just change his TV channel! I also suggest that he read the U.S. Constitution, especially the part about the freedom of speech and press.”

Folks, don’t allow yourselves to be distracted by propaganda. Instead, focus on important issues like the economy, taxes, and the inevitable loss of freedoms caused by an overbearing government. Do that, and you’ll make the right vote in November.
