During this Thanksgiving season, it would be refreshing if we would all lay aside our political gripes about the economy, health care, and the current wars, and thank God for the things we agree on which He has so generously given us.
Sometimes we are too busy complaining about what we do not have that we are blinded to the wealth of graces we do have. Thanksgiving should not be celebrated once a year but every day of our lives, not with turkey and stuffing but with rich portions of gratitude.
No one denies we are at odds over important issues. After all, we are Republicans and Democrats, hawks and doves, pro-lifers and pro-choicers: folks boiling in a melting pot of opposing viewpoints who feel our voices must be heard. Let us sweeten the hard times with a sprinkle of good. We have so much to be thankful for. We live in the greatest nation this world has ever known. Our families love us. Our neighbors look out for us. We have freedoms so many countries can only fathom in their wildest dreams as they go to sleep each night without food to sustain them.
Let us be grateful and give true meaning this year and every year to the spirit of Thanksgiving.
