As head of economic development in Grant County, W.Va., I’d like to write in support of wind farms in Southwest Virginia. Here in Grant County, we are home of a Dominion wind farm and a Dominion coal station and the two work very well together. Wind does not threaten coal, it works in tandem with coal, just as Dominion’s Virginia City Coal Station under construction would work with the proposed wind farms.
Energy projects create high paying construction jobs and high paying long-term jobs. They add tax revenue to the county’s budget and potentially attract other energy investments. These projects are a win/win for the companies proposing them, the citizens where the projects are located, and for the county budget, the lion’s share of which goes to public schools.
Having worked with Dominion for many years, I can assure you they are a good company to deal with and a good corporate citizen. I wish them luck on their energy projects in Southwest Virginia.
