Reject gun safety classes in schools

I wrote an article regarding hunter training in our schools a few days ago. I just finished reading an article in the paper about senators weighing the pros and cons of gun safety class in high schools. Did anyone get the message?

I wish to thank Sen. Jesse Guills who voted against this bill. He said he is put off by the idea of firearms in school even if they are merely there as a training exercise especially when they talk about gun free schools.

In the wake of the recent tragedy at Northern Illinois University and Virginia Tech last year does anyone want this hunter training class now? Our schools are here to educate our kids not train them to kill!

First, it starts with killing an animal and then escalates into a human being. This doesn’t happen with everyone of course but there are those out there that first start with hunting and killing animals.

Our schools just aren't secure enough now even after 911. There are many schools in Mercer County that you can walk into from the front doors and then walk all around the school even though there are security guards there. They stop you driving in and take your name (which could be made up) but once you are in the school you could do just about anything and that is scary! The NRA is behind this hunter training bill getting passed and now it is on to the Senate Finance Committee.

Our children are precious and deserve to be taught well and kept safe at any level. So please write your senator and urge them to vote no on SB89.
