In December, two great men died who had dedicated their lives to help children.
The first was Fred Robertson. He ran the Thomas C. Lightfoot camp. Thousands of children were influenced by the kind, thoughtful, fun-loving and intelligent gentleman. This kind man also was a leader in the Boy Scouts, which influenced many to be leaders in their chosen professions and communities. Even his influence could be found during his church attendance by singing in the choir and youth activities. His influence will be felt for generations. Children would come to his house to see his son, Shaune (now a prominent doctor) and ask his lovely wife Betty if Fred could come out to play!
The second is Garland “Bo” Bowman. Bo was a teacher and coach at Glenwood Junior High. Bo’s love of sports and being competitive taught many students discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship and the need for academic excellence. Even after retirement Bo dabbled in photography and kept up with sports with pictures, and newspaper articles. His children and grandchildren have the same traits as Bo. A great legacy! Many students will remember the skills he taught to be successful and that will be passed on for generations also.
Their lives are characterized by Jesus saying, “well done, good and faithful servant.”
