I am writing on behalf of the Relay For Life planning committee at Concord University. We would like to invite the community to participate in our ninth annual Relay For Life event Friday, April 23, on the Athens campus.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. It is an event where teams camp around a track and take turns walking for 12 hours. Our event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday and end at 7 a.m. Saturday, April 24. We recognize that cancer patients go through their cancer experience day and night, rain or shine, and we will walk rain or shine. Money raised through Relay For Life goes toward helping cancer patients and their families in the form of research, education, advocacy and service.
Since 2002, Relay For Life at Concord University has generated over $169,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year, our goal is to raise $20,000, and we would greatly appreciate your help in meeting our goal.
I think that we all know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer and have wanted to reach out to them and help in some way. Participating in Relay For Life is a great way to help fight this terrible disease, and it’s easy to get involved. To form a team you will need eight to 15 people, and each individual will need to pay the $10 registration fee. I participate on a team with my students, but anyone can form a team, join an existing team, or even make a donation by visiting our event website www.relayforlife.org/concorduniversitywv.
If you would like more information about Relay For Life at Concord University, contact Erin Clark, event chair, at (304) 384-5277 or visit our event website www.relayforlife.org/concorduniversitywv.

Kudos to Telegraph carrier
This letter is to acknowledge the dedicated performance of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph paper delivery service by Mr. Charles Surface. During the last two snow storms, our paper was delivered every day except one, and I believe that day was one of the worst travel days we’ve had for several years.
Mr. Surface seems to have the same outlook for his job as the “neither rain, sleet, hail or snow” motto of the U.S. Postal Service. This man is to be commended for his outstanding work.
