Boucher’s vote undermines nation

Following is a letter to Congressman Rick Boucher: On Friday, June 26, 2009 I was perhaps the most disappointed in you personally and in our House of Representatives as a whole as I have ever been in my life as I watched the House debate on HR 2454 “American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009”. You collectively have passed yet another major bill that will help further the destruction of our Republic and our individual liberties. It is even more disturbing to realize that you and the majority of the House never even read the bill. Did you? That is inexcusable, and unacceptable, especially on such a destructive and regressive piece of legislation!

I am writing to insist that you change your vote to “no” on HR 2454 on the basis that you most likely had no knowledge of what was in the bill, and because it is not what your constituents or the people of America wanted. I beseech you to look into your heart and ask yourself this question. “Who do I work for?” Is it for the Obama Administration? Is it for the Democrat Party? Is it for Nancy Pelosi? Is it for another state such a California ... so that despite the fact that they passed similar abominable legislation, they can compete nationally by forcing Virginia and other sovereign states to adopt commensurate draconian and tyrannical measures? Is it for yourself? The constitutional answer is a resounding no. You work for the good citizens of the 9th district. Your vote does not reflect the right and virtuous answer.

I am embarrassed for you and those that continue to vote for you. Yes, we know we need reasonable, reasoned, and prudent environmental measures that serve to balance common sense conservation measures with the protection of individual property rights, free enterprise and national prosperity. This bill does none of that and is in fact pure deceit. It is about another agenda, of which I believe you are fully aware.

Why do certain individuals manipulate bills through Congress during crises (currently the economic crisis)? Because they have an agenda, and if you really read this bill and were you truly dedicated to serving your constituents in the spirit of the Federalist, you would never have voted for it. This insanity has to stop! Only you can help it stop, by not voting for things you have not read, that are not faithful to the founding principles of liberty and popular sovereignty and especially if you’re simply towing the party line to, as Rahm Emanuel put it, “exploit a crisis.”

Your support of this bill makes me think that you don’t care about what your constituents want, or what the American people want, and for that you should be ashamed. You were sent to Washington to work for the people; no one else. For this reason, and if you don’t change your vote, we will be adding your name to a list of Congressmen who should not get our vote in 2010. If this country ever needed real leaders, it is now! Will you switch your vote, and become a real leader who operates from an informed and principled position, or remain with the power grabbing socialists staging a bloodless Marxist coup, right under our noses?

Under the Motion to Reconsider rule in the House, you have the right to change your “yes” vote on HR 2454 to “no”. You have until July 2, 2009, and I hope you do the right thing. Otherwise, you will be forever labeled as a Congressman who deserted the principles of liberty and eschewed your responsibilities a representative of the people.

Congressman Boucher, do the right thing. Prove to me and your constituents that you work for them and have their interests at heart. Do not maintain a position that undermines the constitution you swore to uphold and protect ... “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Change your vote to no.

A very sad and disgusted retired soldier who knows that a “yes” vote on this bill was wrong and who is appealing to your sense of decency to change your vote.
