To our citizens in Mercer County: Please respond to this letter if you want to. I would like to know if you feel the same way as I do about our highway department. When it comes to plowing, salting and cinders, don’t you think the gravel that is mixed with the salt is too big and that’s what causes the chips on vehicles?
Has anyone taken a long had look at the ditch lines? With all the taxes we pay in West Virginia, which is too long to list, we need better things. Go to Virginia, they don’t use large gravel big enough to chip a vehicle, it’s real fine. What I don’t understand is are we that far behind that we can’t see that? I have complained more than two or three times about our highway system only to be told we don’t have the money. So please ask yourself how much tax money do they need? What would the state do if it comes tax time and we don’t have money to pay our taxes, including the fire fee?
So please let me know in a letter to the editor; if things don’t change come election time it will. It’s time things were better for us and not Beckley, after all we pay taxes too. Don’t you think we deserve better? With cow paths like we have, no good-paying jobs will come to our area.
