BLUEFIELD — I am writing to urge Congressman Nick Rahall and all members of Congress who are considering the president’s health care reform proposal to take action to fix the abortion access and funding issues in the bill or vote against the bill entirely.
The National Right to Life organization has called the president’s health care reform bill “the most pro-abortion single piece of legislation that has ever come to the House floor for a vote, since Roe v. Wade.” The majority of Congress and the public agree that the federal government should not fund elective abortions.
This is not a Republican or Democrat issue. There are members from both political parties who oppose this legislation because of concerns over public funds being used for abortion access. I hope our representatives, including Congressman Nick Rahall, will stand on the side of life and oppose this bill unless something is done to stop, without any doubt, the use of public funds for abortions.
Now is the time to take a stand on this issue. Please stand with the innocence of the unborn and oppose this bill unless something is done to ensure taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions.
